River Plate are in a serious relegation battle in Argentina as the season kicks off, and it has me looking at the concept of relegation in a whole new light. Suddenly, my nature as a football fan has changed and the wins of the past mean little. All that matters is The Average.
After a truly awful campaign, River Plate is looking to sell off its assets to balance the books. The outgoing club administration is try to at least leave without a financial deficit, but it’s the deficit in football that concerns most fans, and selling off major players wouldn’t seem to be a step in the right direction to right that ship. Or would it?
